Even though Christmas music will always have a special place in my heart, sometimes you need to switch it up a bit or you'll go mad. If you're anything like me (and if you read my blog, I'm assuming you are), you've been blasting X-mas tunes since the beginning of November, meaning your family and friends are slowly starting to go out of their minds from the lack of variation. Filmreview: Crimson Peak

For months I waited for the release of the new Tom Hiddleston movie and a little while ago, I finally went to see it in the cinema. Keep reading to see what I thought of it!

Plot
A wealthy girl falls for a handsome noble man, who she wants to marry. Her father objects to the marriage, but he suddenly dies. The girl can now marry the man she loves and she goes to live with him and his sister in England. But there are things in his past that are coming back to haunt them all.

Cast

Mia Wasikowska, who you might know as Alice from 'Alice in Wonderland', plays the role of Edith Cushing, the wealthy girl who falls for the noble man. I'm not the biggest fan of her work and this was no different. I thought her acting was a bit bland and she showed no distinct personality.
Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki in 'The Avengers', has taken on the role of Thomas Sharpe, the noble man who wants to marry Edith. Now, this is what I call an actor! God, this man can literally play any role. He's so honest in his acting and he played his part so convincing, you honestly forget that he's not Thomas Sharpe himself. Amazing!
Jessica Chastain plays Lucille Sharpe, Thomas' sister. I wasn't sure of how I'd like Jessica in this role, since I've only ever seen her in 'The Help', but the person who cast her deserves an award, seriously! She had the most incredible chemistry with Tom and playing opposite him seemed like such a natural thing for her to do. I loved not only the actors who played them, but also the characters themselves. A+!

What I thought of the film
First of all, this movie is absolutely stunning to look at. Even without dialogue or plot, it's gorgeous. The scenery, the costumes, everything screams gothic romance. But this brings me to the second point I want to discuss. This movie is described as a horror movie, but it's definitely not. There are some creepy scenes - not scary, just creepy - but there was no real horror aspect to it. It's way more of a gothic romance than a gothic horror.
My last point: my favorite director of all time is Tim Burton (Nightmare before Christmas, Sweeney Todd etc.) and while this movie may not be directed by him, but by Guillermo Del Toro, it does have that certain Burton vibe. Which I happen to adore! It's dark and mysterious and creepy at times, but drop dead gorgeous. Beautiful scenery, beautiful costumes, beautiful dialogue and beautifully shot. 

Rating: 15/5 stars, it's sooooooo good!!!

Seriously, if you love this genre in general or if you are a fan of Hiddleston (like me) you. have. to. see. it!

November favorites

My examresults are slowly rolling in and I have to say I'm surprised. I'd honestly thought I'd failed some of them, but so far I've passed every single one! Knock on wood, I still have a few to go... Even though october has obviously been a very busy time for me, november has been a lot more peaceful so far, which means I've had time to gather quite some favorites to share with you!

NETFLIX! I finally caved and made an account. Holy crap, am I addicted! In the past few weeks, I've watched two full seasons of Teen Wolf, four seasons of Modern Family, three seasons of The Nanny and about two dozen movies... My social life is even worse now than it was before, but I can't say I regret it. Who can when you have endless possibilities of romcoms?


Salad shaker

I know this sounds really stupid, but I love taking salads with me to school, especially with grilled chicken! I used to take it in a normal tupperware thingy, but that meant I couldn't take the dressing and I'm sorry, but salad without dressing is just not okay. My new salad shaker (bought at Flying Tiger for about three bucks) comes with a tiny tub to put the dressing in and a fork! No more poking yourself in the fingers, because you've accidentally grabbed the fork that is drifting through the bottom of your bag!

L'orèal Infallible 24H Matte Foundation in 11 Vanilla

Holy shit, it's like your photoshopped! This was the first thing that ran through my mind after I'd applied this foundation for the first time a few days ago. I was a little worried at first that the even the lightest colour would be too dark for my ghostly white skin, but it's pretty damn close to my natural skin colour and that's impressive to begin with! Almost no foundation comes in a colour that is light enough for me to wear... The finish is completely matte, I don't even need to apply powder afterwards, something I never could have dreamed of with any other product. I haven't been able to test the 24 hour staying power,  but I've come pretty close and they're not lying, even after rain and hail my foundation still looked flawless. It has high coverage and blends like an absolute dream. Perfect for college students who are always in a hurry (like me)!

Hooker Boots

Yes, you're reading this title correctly. It really says hooker boots. This is like a petname that I've given my over the knee black leather boots. You know, like in Pretty Woman? I know a lot of girls will probably hate this style of shoes, but I personally love them. They remind me of The Nanny, who I look up to immensely, so that's a big plus. They're extremely comfortable, so suitable for school and just plain pretty to look at. What more do you want?

NANOWRIMO

This is my second time participating in National Novel Writing Month, where you're supposed to write 50 000 words in one month! I love writing, hence the blog, so to have an entire month dedicated to writing a novel is like music to my ears! I'm not doing so well this year, though, I'm only about 25 000 words in and I only have 8 days left... Aaaaaaaaaah! Send in the troops, by which I mean truckloads of caffeine and chocolates, and let's get ready to pull allnighters!

Bobble bottle

I know, I know. I'm incredibly late to jump on this band wagon. Literally everyone and their grandmother has these bottles, but I've only discovered them a couple of weeks ago, okay? Don't judge. Bobble Bottles have a special filter in them to cleanse every kind of liquid you put in them. So for someone like me, who drinks tap water at school that tastes like pond, this seems like the solution. And it is. I only have one complaint about these bottles. You have to suck them quite hard to get the water to come out, which sounds gross by the way, and after a full day it feels like a workout. But apart from that, I really recommend getting one!
